Definitely a five star blockbuster that never abated throughout the entire story. Started strong and finished even stronger, with plenty of ongoing gunplay. One of the greatest assortment of characters I have ever had the opportunity to follow. They all live up to their expected assignments, as each and everyone of them effectively initiated their assignments with plenty of ongoing gunplay and the excitement never ceases! The author apparently did his research, as each developing episode is thoroughly descriptive and the storylines are unbelievably fulfilling. This can be considered family-friendly activities that will definitely motivate the readers full attention. Most definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to enjoy a very heartwarming rendition of our old American folklore, as there is romance, gunfights and plenty of exciting adventures throughout the entire w!
Reading this novel was like watching a good movie. I could smell the cooking, feel the bushes, grass, rock, water etc., as well as envision the clothing, home interiors, the barn, the stalls, the horses, just so well explained I just kept reading and reading, not wanting to put the book down, but of course I had to at times, but many times found myself engrossed in the book until after 2 or 3 in the morning! Couldn't wait to get into book 2. Thanks Donald Robertson for a great read & hoping there will be a third book soon.
I have read a lot of western and this one was really good. It is a story of growing up quickly on the western frontier ten years after the Civil War. It also showed that young people who are reared by moral, law abiding parents can develop into good people (not perfect, but able to adapt quickly). Mr Robertson does a great job in describing the countryside and developing his main character. The author leaves plenty of threads on the table to follow in future stories and I cannot wait. My only disappointment was I felt the ending was rushed with no twists. The action was well pacedand you could almost smell the sage and taste the crisp cool water Clay received from Maria. Well worth the small price I paid and willing to pay for more of Mr Robertson tales.
I enjoyed this book very much! A well written story by one of my favorite authors. I could understand what this young man felt and why he had to do what he did. I have no problem with the story's premise of vengeance. The taming of the West was a had time, requiring hard men to do what needed to be done. There are always consequences for each of our actions, and Clay going after the animals that killed his family is that consequence. This hard country needed hard men to tame it, and Clay was one of them. This story also made me think of my favorite young man who started out in a very similar manner... Jess Williams.
I’ve now read five of Mr. Robertson’s books: The Logan Series Forty-four Justice and a short story. There is no better western writer around. His books are full of action and they are clean to read. No swear words or ugly sex scenes to ruin the narrative. He spins a great tale. He is as good if not better than Louis L‘Amour.
Classic western adventure with a young man out to avenge the murder of his parents. Along the way he must decide which of three young ladies will win his heart. This is an easy enjoyable read in the John Wayne tradition of "A man' s gotta do what a man' s gotta do" even if he loses his girlfriends.
This new series is some of Robertson best writing. I was enthralled from the first pages to the very end. Clay is not your average 17 year old. He thinks and learns quick and draws faster. I’ve already downloaded the next volume in the series. Write faster Mr. Robertson. I’ll need the next volume soon.
I liked this book so much that I bought book 2 of the series. The hero is a very likeable young man. I couldn't put the book down 'til oh dark thirty to finish it. Loved the story and was pleased with the editing - it did not have the stereotypical grammar errors like "would of" instead of "would've".
